Rochelle Sloan is a trumpeter and music educator from Houston, Texas. At eleven years old, she picked up the trumpet in the midst of dance, sports, art, and karate classes. Throughout high school she participated in Houston Youth Symphony, Revolution Drum and Bugle Corps, American Festival for the Arts Conservatory Orchestra, Emblem 281 Independent Winter guard, and all music programs that her high school had to offer. Sloan was accepted into five major universities with scholarship offers from each music school. She moved to Dallas and attended Southern Methodist University where she participated in Meadows Wind Ensemble, Meadows Symphony Orchestra, Meadows Jazz Orchestra, and Southern Methodist University Marching Band. Upon graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and trumpet, she moved back to Houston and taught class piano and music theory fulltime for three years while integrating herself within the live music scene. Sloan has performed and recorded with numerous bands in a wide array of genres since then. You can now find her teaching private lessons and working as a freelance trumpet player, fitting in rehearsals and recording sessions whenever she can.
