Samantha Arizpe, a Houston native, is a senior at the University of Houston- Moores School of Music. She is currently majoring in violin performance under Andrzej Grabiec with a minor in business-marketing.
Samantha began playing the violin at age 6 through mariachi, and piano at the age of 14 ,and has since been a part of both the mariachi and classical music community. She enjoys performing and teaching mariachi music and volunteering for the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza with the grammy-award winning Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán in Texas. She has also accompanied many Latin artists such as Amanda Miguel, Jorge Celedón, Diego Verdaguer, and Yolanda del Río.
Samantha, an alumnist of the Virtuosi of Houston Youth Orchestra under Franz Krager and Andrzej Grabiec ,has had opportunities to perform in major performance venues such as Jones Hall of Performing Arts, and at Carnegie Hall in New York. She has also played alongside numerous musicians from the Houston Symphony Orchestra including Frank Huang, the newly appointed concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic.
Samantha has attended summer festivals such as the Interharmony International Music Festival in Arcidosso, Italy where she played for world-renowned violinist Vadim Repin, and the Texas Music Festival where she got to study under former conductor of the Houston Symphony, Hans Graf. This year, Samantha has joined the Texas Medical Center Orchestra and continues playing for the Moores School Symphnoy and Opera orchestras.
After graduating, Samantha hopes to travel Europe and pursue her masters in violin performance and music therapy. She loves teaching and hopes to continue spreading her love of music to students.
