Haven’t we all been there before? Bad day? Break up? Celebration mode activated? The prevailing theme is that music has a lot more to do with how we feel, and how we cope, than you might think. According to many studies on the subject, music is heavily involved with memory, emotions, stress reductions, and productivity.
Research suggests that when undertaking a complex task, background music can affect productivity levels when faster paced music is played. Conversely, when you need to focus, playing instrumental tracks boosts the brain’s ability to retain information and is directly linked to short term memory. I’m sure we all could’ve used more classical music in study hall!
Feeling stressed, well there’s an answer for that too. Playing soft, ambient music or relaxing melodies showed that in a particular study, participants recovered from their stress around 30% faster that those who had no additional auditory factors.
Additionally, listening to soft music at dinner in a dimly lit room showed those participants ate 18% less thereby aiding in weight loss! Sounds great right? Well, there are more benefits, such as pain management, aiding in sleep, mood improvement/motivation, and physical performance.
The benefits are substantial, and this fact isn’t lost on us at Sessions. We understand that everyone might realize these different benefits in their own way, but the prevailing common denominator is the music. So, if you need to get over a broken relationship, get something done, or just de-stress, we have music programs for you! Feel better, it’s science.
